Ladies Auto Know…Is Your Vehicle Ready for Summer?

summer-specialWith economic concerns on most people’s minds, the old-fashioned auto vacation is making a comeback, as families are looking for convenience over the expense of air travel to exotic locations. High summer temperatures can be hard on your vehicle, so if you feel anything is out of the norm with your car (or maybe you just don’t remember when the last “check-up” was), have one of our ASE Certified Technicians here at Linear Automotive examine things to give you and your family that peace of mind when you hit the road. Below is a list of some of the vehicle components that should be checked periodically during summer (and especially before a long road trip) to avoid a stressful and costly breakdown.

  • Cooling System – Did you know the cooling system is the #1 cause of engine breakdown? It works harder during hot temps to prevent overheating. As a rule of thumb, the cooling system should be serviced every two years. (Something you can do to help at home: clean your radiator periodically using a garden hose and a soft brush)
  • Engine Performance – Hard starts, rough idling, stalling; these are issues that need to be brought into our shop to be corrected. Doing so will help to improve gas mileage!
  • Belts, Hoses & Clamps – Hoses and drive belts should be checked for cracks, bulges or frayed edges. Most DIY’ers don’t have the proper equipment to do so at home, so let our certified technicians check the condition for you!
  • A/C System I shouldn’t have to tell you…if you have previously endured a Texas summer then you should know the importance of a functioning air conditioner. IfAC COUPON your A/C system has been taking it easy all winter, one of our service techs can remedy that…and at a low impact on your wallet!
  • Battery – Excessive heat and overcharging shorten the life of a battery. Heat causes battery fluid to evaporate, which then damages the internal structure of the battery. To get the most life out of a battery, I recommend having the electrical system checked to make sure it is charging at the correct rate. (Something YOU can do: keep the top of the battery clean. Dirt can become a conductor, which drains your battery’s power)
  • Tires -Tires also need special care in warmer weather as high temps put added stress on them. With just a few inches of rubber between you and the asphalt, weak tires will create havoc for you and your family! Heat causes the pressure within a tire to rise, therefore it is important to check the pressure when tires are cold. Bad signs to watch out for: uneven tire wear, cupping, vibrations or pulling to one side. These all indicate problems with your tires and/or suspension system.

It doesn’t take a whole lot of time and money to ensure your car runs properly during summer, and although breakdowns are going to happen, the chances of YOU going through that can be minimized by taking a few extra maintenance steps. It’s as easy as driving over to our location. We will handle the rest.
